Dear Friends,
For twenty-five years, Sue Kujawa has served Mothers’ Club with steadfast dedication and tireless effort. Sue began her work as a part-time administrator in 1986 when her two boys were attending Mothers’ Club. Sue eventually became the full-time director in 1990.
During her tenure, Sue has overseen transformational changes. Sue challenged herself and the staff to respond creatively to the changing needs of families. She encouraged and supported the early childhood education teachers as they earned academic credits to ensure high quality programs. Sue secured the support of First 5 LA to strengthen the family literacy programs. Today Mothers’ Club is recognized as a model Family Literacy Program. The ultimate measure of the quality and scope of Sue’s leadership is the purchase and renovation of an imaginative new facility that allows Mothers’ Club to serve more families, strengthen community partnerships, and consolidate a strong, diverse funding base. These are remarkable achievements. Sue has been the steady hand successfully guiding the organization through many challenges and opportunities.
Now that Mothers’ Club is securely in its new home, with strong programs and a strong foundation for the future, Sue has decided the time is right for her to step down from her position as Executive Director, effective June 30, 2011. All of us who have known and worked alongside Sue to build and support Mothers’ Club will miss her – both professionally and personally. Fortunately, and true to her nature, Sue has made a commitment to make the leadership transition as smooth as possible as she continues in her current role throughout the coming year.
The Board of Directors has appointed a strong, capable Search Committee, chaired by board member Norah Morley, to lead the process of selecting a new Executive Director. The Search Committee has already begun its work and a timeline has been developed to ensure a successful conclusion to the search next spring.
As President of the Board of Directors I want to assure you and all of our supporters that Mothers’ Club is in an excellent position to manage this transition, thanks in no small part to Sue’s foresight and planning. All of us have as our highest priority safeguarding the mission and vision of this special organization that has made such a difference to isolated and troubled families through the years.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at search.committee@mothersclub.org.
Sincerely,
John Carlton
