Preschoolers Go GREEN in Pasadena
With Mini Hard Hats & Plastic Shovels,
Toddlers Break Ground for Mothers’ Club New Home

PASADENA, CALIF –   On Wednesday October 25th , preschoolers, parents and supporters of Mothers’ Club will come together with Mayor Bill Bogaard and children’s performer Jose-Luis Orozco to break ground at the future home of Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center

The new center, which has been meticulously designed by architectural firm Harley Ellis Devereaux to meet the US Green Building Council’s guidelines for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification, will be completely renovated over the coming year and open in 2007.  The site will house the first LEED Certified child development center and preschool in the state of California, furthering Pasadena’s national leadership in building “green.”   The center is located at 980 North Fair Oaks Avenue.

The event, scheduled from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, will announce the non-profit’s capital campaign and recognize lead donors, including long-time Pasadena resident Mary Lois Nevins.  Among the largest grants received from foundations is a gift from The S. Mark Taper Foundation, whose name will adorn the facility’s Outdoor Learning Center.  Generous grants have also been received from the Ahmanson Foundation, the Rose Hills Foundation and the Pasadena Community Foundation.  In addition, the City of Pasadena awarded the project a Community Development Block Grant.
In its new facility, Mothers’ Club, which has been serving families in Pasadena and Altadena for 44 years, will be able to significantly expand its programs for parents and their young pre-kindergarten children.

Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center prepares families living in isolation and poverty to succeed in school and in life through two-generation learning programs.  Its services are comprised of high quality, research-based early childhood education for children ages 0-5, and a comprehensive adult program which includes parenting education, leadership training, adult literacy, vocational exploration, group counseling and social networking for the primary caretaker, most often the mother.  For more information, please contact Sarah E.
